First recipe of 2017! This delicious Nepali dumpling is a fun and easy recipe that you can make with your friends or families.


You need:

  • 1 lb ground or minced lamb
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 1/2 cup minced cilantro
  • 3 tbsp minced ginger
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 30 round dumpling wrappers (about 3 inches wide, you can make them fresh, but I have found a good recipe yet)

How to make this:

  1. Mix the minced lamb, onion, cilantro, ginger, oil, garlic, turmeric, salt, you can use any meat you want, chicken, pork, beef, just not anything that’s too lean, a little fat makes it tender and juicy.
  2. If you want to make it vegetarian, substitute the meat with crimini mushrooms with 1.3x the weight, mince them, then squeeze the water out with a cheesecloth
  3. Place about a generous tsp of fillings in the wrap, then “glue” the edge with some water, you can just squeeze form them, or do some different designs
  4. Steam the dumpling over boiling water for about 20 min, you can also boiling it in hot, salted water for 3 min
  5. If you made too much, you can keep them in the freeze (uncooked) for up to 2 month




One of the best types of food for a cold late fall/early winter night is Russian food, a warm bowl of Borscht with some bread, or some beef stroganoff with some pasta, or one of my favorites, Pelmeni or Russian/Siberian dumpling.


You need:

  • 2 eggs
  • 180 g flour
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 lb ground mutton
  • 1/4 lb ground pork
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sour cream

How to make this:

  1. You can use a standard round wonton wrap for this, which are just flour and water, but I prefer an eggy-ier dough, so, mix 2 eggs and 180g of flour with a pinch of salt, knead, then press it with a pasta machine or a rolling pin, to about 2 mm or 1/16 inch, them cut them out to a 4 cm or 1.5 inch circle wit ha cookie cutter
  2. Finely chop the onion, then cook them in a medium high pan with some oil until they turn translucent. Then mix the cooked onion with the ground meat and salt
  3. Fold the wrap with the filling in them, like the following photos, you can make about 25 dumplings with this recipe:983ae15f-cbcd-4301-aafb-c3cdfd1990de
  4. Boil them in salted water for about 4 min, meanwhile, heat up a pan with some butter, drain the dumplings, then quickly pan fry them in the butter
  5. Serve it with some chopped cilantro and sour cream
